The Waiting Game

My estimated due date has come and gone, and I'm still pregnant. Every morning I wake up, roll over to my husband and sigh, "I'm not in labor."

But all signs point to baby boy coming soon. I went to the midwife yesterday and found out I'm 2 centimeters dilated, 80% effaced, and at a -1 station. Granted, cervical dilation has pretty much nothing to do with predicting when a woman will go into labor, but as someone who likes to obsess over the numbers, I'm thrilled to have this information and choose to interpret it as a positive sign.

My most exciting bit of news is that I lost my mucus plug this morning. I never knew mucus could be so exciting. I'm having to hold back from posting it as a status update on Facebook. Again, I know that losing the mucus plug has little predictive value in terms of when labor will start, but it does mean my body is gearing up. Things are moving along and baby boy will be here soon.

  1. I realized that we just passed your due date when I was in the shower this morning! You seem to have a really good attitude about being "late." I hope your baby boy gets here soon!

  2. I had baby #1 at 40w+3d, just one day after losing my mucus plug and having a midwife appt that showed nothing happening in the way of dilation or engagement :)
What an exciting time, I remember waiting for my baby boy, being so anxious to meet him. I remember timing contractions on the computer in the wee hours of the morning while my husband slept, just me and my little labor teammate on the inside. Here's hoping you don't have to wait much longer.
